“If Republicans win the House and the Senate, five thousand dollars to every adult,” he said, insisting the government could afford the payout.

Trump contrasted the pledge with Democrats, arguing that their economic policies would leave the country without the money to fund such payments and push the U.S. toward a depression.

The proposal would require congressional approval and is expected to cost well over $1 trillion if applied nationwide.
