Niger’s prime minister says the country will now control and sell its own uranium, declaring that its resources will be managed “by us and for us.”

Addressing the UN General Assembly, Ali Mahaman Lamine Zeine said Niger intends to sell uranium on the international market “in full transparency” and in compliance with its nuclear non-proliferation obligations.

Zeine said Niger regained control of SOMAÏR in June 2025 and invested around 30 billion CFA francs to keep production going using only Nigerien workers and experts. He also accused France of sabotaging equipment before leaving the country.

“The current stock belongs to our country,” Zeine said, adding that Niger would sell it to any willing buyer under transparent terms.
