Reuters, citing diplomatic sources, reports that the UNCTAD chief received 10 “encourage” votes, three “discourage” votes and two “no opinion” votes from the 15-member council.

Grynspan has now led three of the four informal rounds, keeping her at the front of a still-open race to succeed António Guterres.

The vote is not decisive. Any eventual nominee will still need the backing of the Security Council’s five permanent members before being formally recommended to the General Assembly. If selected, Grynspan would become the first woman to lead the United Nations.
