Writing on X, Smotrich said Israel should judge the incident by the intent rather than its outcome. “Whoever tried to crash a plane and murder 180 Israelis must pay as if he murdered,” he wrote, adding: “He and every state or terrorist organization that sent him.”

Smotrich thanked God for what he called the “great miracle” of the passengers’ rescue and said Israel had a duty to pursue and destroy its enemies.

Authorities have not publicly established that the cockpit incident was a terrorist attack or that anyone involved was acting on behalf of a state or militant organization.
