Prime Minister Andy Burnham told the BBC that the government believes Tehran was involved, while stressing that the inquiry remains “ongoing, complex and serious” and is being conducted in close coordination with the United States.

Five British men were arrested near the base on suspicion of preparing a terrorist act. Police found petrol in their vans but no explosives, and all five have since been released on strict bail while the investigation continues.

Burnham defended the decision to release them, saying the suspects remain under the “strictest possible” conditions and that authorities have the case under close control.

Iran has denied any involvement.
