New York Mayor Zohran Mamdani has finally received federal security clearance after a roughly nine-month wait, giving him access to classified briefings on threats and emergencies facing the city.
U.S.
Mamdani confirmed the approval on Wednesday, weeks after saying the vetting process was still underway. The clearance allows him to receive sensitive federal intelligence on issues such as terrorism and other national-security threats affecting New York.
The exact reason for the delay has not been disclosed. Federal clearances can take months to process, and Mamdani’s office had previously said his application was moving within the normal timeline.
